Alyssa "Ally" Celones Senturk

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, Chile, 2013

Ally Celones Senturk has ten years of experience as a creative storyteller with a multimedia marketing and science communication background. Currently, she is the communications and outreach manager at San Diego Coastkeeper, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting and restoring fishable, swimmable, and drinkable waters in San Diego County.

Community service and environmentalism are cornerstones of Ally’s career. She holds a B.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of California Santa Barbara, specializing in Latin American and Iberian Studies. At UC Santa Barbara, she participated in a year-long education abroad cultural immersion program at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, where she worked with communities on bicycle advocacy and urban gardening. She is an alumna of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program where she studied the benefits of international travel in higher education throughout South America.

After graduation, she spent time on a small organic farm in Talkeetna, Alaska as a part of the Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms placement. Before working with Coastkeeper, Ally led marketing campaigns for several California statewide clean energy programs with the Center for Sustainable Energy, most notably the Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program and the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project. She also helped relaunch Surfrider Foundation San Diego’s Blue Water Task Force, a volunteer-run community science and water quality monitoring program. In her spare time, Ally can be found in her garden, cooking, taking dance breaks, practicing yoga, playing with her dog, or adventuring outside. She also tells stories about everyday activism on her podcast, Feelanthrope.
